Dad is a long time Jaguar enthusiast, and bought his 1988 Solent Blue Jaguar (XJ40) Sovereign in 1991 after carefully shortlisting it from a huge list of pre-owned Jaguars. A "pre-Ford" model, it was equipped with the 3.6 litre AJ6 straight-six engine, and came with all the usual Sovereign refinements. I have to say that the slightly soft rear end of the car detracted from it being an otherwise accomplished, and comfortable, mode of transport - but this was soon addressed with the replacement of the standard shock absorbers with items from Bilstein, and the Jaguar Sport steering rack nylon bush kit to improve the feedback from the steering.
Dad has always enjoyed his Jaguar, and has had many years daily use from the car. It was used in the Summer of 1992 for my Sisters wedding, where it looked truely splendid.
Prior to our birth Dad had enjoyed taking part in the local clubman motorsport scene in a variety of cars. How better to continue to enjoy his Jaguar than to compete with it... the only question was how?
In 2000 Dad had settled upon Hillclimbing as a relatively inexpensive route (he says!) into competetion:
The Hillclimb
However, by 2002, the competition bug ahd well and truely bitten, and Dad decided he'd like to try his hand at racing...
